FAQs

Funding

Does APNF only fund education and energy initiatives?
Yes. At this time, we only fund US-based initiatives in public middle school education and teacher training, and solar energy as a renewable energy source.

What is the typical APNF grant size?
Grants range between $20,000 and $60,000.

Eligibility

Who may apply for APNF grants?
We invite any nonprofit that qualifies as a public charity with tax exempt status under Internal Revenue Code section 501(c)(3) to submit a letter of inquiry (LOI) to APNF Executive Director Laura Staich at info@apnfoundation.org. We will invite organizations that meet our key criteria to apply for a grant, if our board of directors feels the organization’s mission and proven track record are in line with our priorities.

Are there any restrictions or programs not open to APNF funding?
We do not fund projects outside of public middle school education and teacher training, or solar energy. Potential grantees also must meet our key criteria.

Does APNF fund multi-year grants?
We award grants annually and evaluate the program’s progress through required mid-year and annual reporting. We encourage organizations to include their multi-year strategic plan in their letter of inquiry (LOI) and grant application (if invited). At this time, we award grants on a year-to-year basis.

Application Process

Does APNF accept unsolicited proposals or applications?
Typically, we do not accept unsolicited grant applications. However, we welcome letters of inquiry (LOIs) that describe your project and how you meet our key criteria. We encourage you to review our information on grant making.

How often does APNF consider letters of inquiry (LOIs) and grant applications?
We consider LOIs and grant applications on an ongoing basis.

How long does it take from the time an organization applies until APNF makes the decision to award funding?
The process can take from four to six months.
